Callum Gill - Professional Services Consultant

Callum Gill joined Sure in 2010 and later Sure Business’ as an engineer in 2018, progressing through the business into his current role of Professional Services Consultant. We spoke to Callum about his career so far, the experiences he’s had, and how he keeps up with the ever-evolving world of technology.

Sure Business’ Professional Services team is at the forefront of technological advancement, and staying on top of the latest trends is a key part of the job.

“Technology has always been a passion of mine and a big reason for that is the speed at which it develops, and how there is always something new to learn,” said Callum.

“My new role in the Professional Services team is all about understanding the latest technology and working out how that could apply across Sure’s range of business clients. I really enjoy applying my knowledge to real-life use cases, and making our clients’ businesses work better thanks to our skills and services.”

That knowledge has been developed over more than a decade with Sure, as Callum first joined us on the Sure Academy scheme, which offers people a hands-on route into life at Sure and is open to school leavers and those looking for a career change. Over the course of the two-year scheme, Callum gained valuable practical training, an internationally recognised Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) , and an immersive insight into life at Sure.  

The move from residential to Sure Business

After completing his time in the Sure Academy, Callum qualified as a residential engineer, specialising in landline and broadband installations. This role provided Callum with the practical skills and fundamentals needed to complete jobs including technical wiring, network optimisation and building meaningful client relationships.

Callum later moved into Sure Business, where cultivating relationships is equally important.

“What really matters when you work for a technology company is understanding how the products and services we offer relate to people’s lives, whether at home or at work.

“Sure Business works with such a variety of businesses, in so many different industries, that a one-size-fits-all approach is never going to work. We have to listen to our clients, work out their needs, and then find the solutions that will address their requirements.”

The role of a Professional Services Consultant

Delivering complex solutions for customers is the primary role of a Professional Services Consultant at Sure Business. Our model is based on having genuine subject experts across the team, who can work independently or together as needed to deliver the solution that a client needs.

In the fast-moving world of technology, our consultants also need to keep up to date with the latest developments, trends and products. Our range of partnerships help our people to gain market-recognised qualifications and accreditations that relate directly to the products and services we offer.

Callum has accreditations and certifications from Microsoft, AWS, Cisco, Mitel and the SIP School, proving to our clients that he knows the solutions that he’s working with every day.

“Learning is a big part of my job and I really enjoy building my knowledge base and applying that to our clients’ needs,” Callum said. “Online modules are a great way to learn and I’m encouraged to make that part of my work week. It’s so important that we know what we’re talking about and find the right combination of technologies to help our clients.

“Since becoming a consultant I’ve worked in unified communications, so my job is to help companies to keep their employees connected across geographies and technologies. I work on projects from beginning to end – designing systems for customers, and constantly checking in with them that Sure Business is delivering exactly what they need and using technology to make their business better.”
